pv training panel imagephotovoltaics is the application of solar cells for energy by converting solar energy directly into electricity. The increasing demand for clean sources of energy has lead to a dramatic increase in photovoltaic systems.

Photovoltaic production has doubled on average every two years. An average 48 percent growth has been seen each year since 2002. This makes photovoltaics the world's fastest growing energy technology. PV installations reached 15,200 megawatts at the end of 2008. Around 90 percent of this is from grid-tied pv systems. Another feature that has made this technology popular is Net metering which is a financial incentive to having solar electric energy.

A large and mostly untrained workforce has been created by this growth and the demand that follows it. To install a pv system requires heavy electrical knowledge, roofing and general carpentry skills along with a good working knowledge of photovoltaics. NABCEP came along and created a certification process and a description of required skills. Now we are seeing training classes popping up all over the world and this is creating another problem. Many of the courses are not accredited which means they have just been slapped together and offered online or at a workshop somewhere and even though they might teach you some things they have not been reviewed by an accredited institute and deemed a well worked course. NABCEP now offers a NABCEP approval which offers contact hours for courses that they have reviewed and deem accurate to the skills and knowledge students should recieve from a course. These contact hours count toward sitting for NABCEP's installer exam, to maintaining the installer certification and now some who get a seperate approval count toward and can offer an Entry Level Certificate Of Knowledge. These are what you want to look for in a pv course, if it does not offer these things it may still be a great and knowledgable course but will not get you any sort of industry recognized certification or contact hours. Our pv training listings are marked rather they are accredited courses and rather they have NABCEP approval for contact hours for the installer exam or for the Entry Level Certificate of Knowledge. We list many pv training courses that do not have any as NABCEP is continually reviewing courses that submit packages and giving approval so many of these may offer it down the road.
